Highlighting Excellence in Education

Safety First!

Mars High School science teacher Meghan Boland stands ready to welcome students and staff into her classroom. She constructed her own protective shields for the students in her classroom (with a little help from Dad!)
My number one concern was the safety of my students.
As the first day with students grew nearer, Ms. Boland, Chemistry and Biology teacher at Mars High School, began to realize that the Plexiglas dividers meant to protect her students were not going to be in her classroom on time.

"My number one concern was the safety of my students.   My tables are bolted to the ground, so swapping tables was not an option and social distancing would be impossible."

That is when she and her father, Mark,  got busy ordering the materials and constructing their own Plexiglas dividers.   She was never given any guarantees that the district would compensate her for this expense, but still committed to this project nonetheless.

As you can see, the final product is incredible!  Using personal funds to supplement educational materials is nothing exceptional, all teachers do that.   What is exceptional is the time and cost that Mrs. Boland devoted to the safety of her students.
